Security Strapping Reduces Pilpherage in Asda Stores

  Paul McCarthy, Managing Director of Packaging Machinery Direct UK Ltd, explains the benefits of having a strapping machine as an anti-pilphering device.
  He was instrumental in siting a Spot LSA-N semi-automatic strapping machine into 5 stores at Texas Homecare in various parts of the UK which were London, Leicester, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. On a one month experimental trial, the savings were incredible. The basis of the experiment was to cross strap high value products, if the strap was missing at the till the Manager would be called to check why the strap was not on.
  These products ranged from a Hair Dryer to Lawn Mowers. The thieves would remove low value goods from large boxes ie a king size quilt, and then put smaller high valued goods into this box thereby paying for a cheap quilt cover but going out of the door with various expensive goods which could then be sold on. Estimates of values of theft per box were anything up to £500.00 with easily sellable products.

  As a result of this experiment, Texas Homecare recognised that the payback was enormous and subsequently ordered 300 machines, one to be placed into each DIY store. Asda are also a current client who use the JN-600 as an anti-pilphering device.
